How to make your living online

The topic?
"How you can make your living online!"
What could be better than waking up in themorning, having a leisurely breakfast, and doing whatever you want the whole dayand STILL make more money than you ever wouldin a 9-to-5 job??
That's what it's like when you make yourliving on the Internet. That's what my day is like... doing what I love and not muchI don't like doing.
Don't envy me, join me!
Ok, ready for "Part 1" of "How you canmake your living online"?
Let's get started... right now!
--------------- PART 1 ------------------
"I Can't Do What You Do Because_____"
It's proven: When you say you "can't"it becomes truth!
You say, "Hey, Dave makes his living onlinebut he has some special talent or he hadconnections or he's highly motivated. I'mnot highly motivated... I'm just trying toget by. I have no special talent and zeroconnections. I 'can't' do what he does."
As soon as you say "I can't do it"... guesswhat? That's right, "You can't!"
I am not much for 'motivational' stuff. Idon't listen to motivational tapes or use'subliminal' tapes and cd's to get me in a'positive' frame of mind. In fact, I hatethat stuff.
There's only one thing that motivates me:Helping other people get what they want andmaking money doing it.
One thing about motivational stuff: It getsyou excited for a short period of time thenit wears off. And then what are you stuckwith? Nothing, an 'emptiness' inside.
Kind of like a 'sugar' high... it lastsonly a few minutes then you're 'down'.
Forget motivational stuff for the most part.
In 1989 I saw Zig Ziglar on tape as he talkedto a group of salespeople. In it he said somethingthat has stuck with me for many years. Hesaid "If you can help enough other people get what they want, then you can get what you want".
I think I first heard that in 1989. It didnot make me successful. I knew what he was saying was right, but it didn't reallyhelp me in a practical way.
It took another 12 years before I finallybecame successful in my own business.
Why? Why did it take so long?
It was my 'mindset'... it was all wrong.
Look, if you want to make your living onlineand have a lifestyle that other people willsimply envy, then you have to have the propermindset.
Of course I was busy 'working for a living'and I had small children that needed myattention so I really was too busy to eventhink about success in my own business.
I liked my job... for the most part. Sothere was only a little motivation for meto start my own business.
Then the Internet came along. In 1995 I triedselling an 'info-product' I developed on theused book business from a simple website Ideveloped and it actually did prettywell...
It was a 'manual' and a 2 tape set that Isold for $179. What was amazing to me wasthat it sold at all. My website was horribleand since PayPal wasn't around yet, I couldonly take 'orders' for the product by gettingpeople to call me on the phone and runningtheir credit cards through my 'mail ordermerchant account'.
But that gave me hope and I sold a lot of these manuals. But what did I do?
I stopped selling them to look for 'somethingbetter'.
Can you imagine? I had this manual and tapeset that cost me $10 to put together and Isold it for $179 and I wasn't satisfied soI stopped selling it?
I look back now in total disbelief that I would have done such a thing. I had a goldmine there. I could have sold a ton of thesemanuals, but instead I went looking for something even 'better'.
Gheesh...
I think one of the reasons it worked so wellwas that I was REALLY trying to help peoplelearn how to make money with used books...and my copy and letters were empathetic.
I cared for my readers and it showed...
But I stopped selling it to find something'better'... ughh!
My mindset should have been... "I've got a greatproduct that people want and it actually works, so how can I sell more of them to more people?"
Instead, I was thinking, "Hey this is great, what else can I sell or create that's better?"
So I got distracted... thinking that 'theremust be something better' when the real diamondwas right in my hand all the time.
But I was new to 'info-marketing' and I was as surprised as anyone that my little projectwas actually making money.
The point of this is: You have knowledge thatsomeone else is willing to pay for. Don'tthink less of it because it's YOUR knowledge.
You know more than you think you know. And ifyou have knowledge that other people want theywill pay you for it. All you have to do it putthe knowledge you have into a manual and maybesome tapes... take it step by step for peopleand then sell it.
Like I said, my motivation does not come frompositive thinking... it comes to me becauseI want to help people make their life betterin some way and make money doing it.
I think that's the mindset all successfulpeople have. It's 'long-term' thinking asopposed to trying to make a 'quick buck'.
People will figure out eventually that you'reonly in a business to make money and will notbuy your products... but, if you're genuinelytrying to HELP people and make money whileyou're doing it, then they will stay with youand become lifelong customers.
In order to do that you must have 'empathy' withothers. You must understand them, what they fear, what they like and what they hate.
You must make the effort to understand them andwhen you do you'll find a lot of ways you canhelp them and make money too.
That's all the news for today,
